Satyaranjan Sarkar resides in Kolkata, India.  He obtained his BA Honours in Political Science from the Calcutta University and MFA in painting from Kala Bhavan Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan where he was awarded a scholarship.  A participant of several national art camps, he has also taken part in many group exhibitions held in major Indian cities.  In addition to painting, he has experience in the artistic direction of dramas and dance dramas.  His recent paintings are not designed to be of fixed images but seek rather, to create multiple images through the use of "active and passive space".
